Blogiversary: MOB Turns 1!

Oct 18, 2011 by

One year ago today I did something I dreamed about for years. Years of healthifying recipes, sharing exercise tips with friends and bonding with women of all ages – not to mention losing 75 pounds. Finally I found the courage to have a voice, a written and honest voice. One year ago I started Mind Over Booty!

I was timid and nervous at first, and now I love every moment of blogging and interacting with the blogging community. Thank you all for reading, commenting, writing and keeping me on my toes. You try my recipes and let me know when something doesn’t work. You share your enthusiasm for fitness. You encourage me when I need it most and remind me I’m not alone in my struggles and successes. To that I say cheers! To give back to all you loyal and occasional readers, it’s only appropriate to give away some free stuff. Who doesn’t love free?!

Just a few of my favorite things…

An MOB t-shirt, freeze dried banana chips, wasabi seaweed snacks, fruit leather, kashi granola bars, luna bars, and some awesome pumpkin chocolate chip cookies – HOLLA! UPDATE: Winner will also receive a whole case of Chobani Greek Yogurt!

The blogiversary giveaway will run through tomorrow, Wednesday October 19 at noon CST. To enter, leave a comment on this post about your most courageous achievement. For a second entry tweet about the giveaway and copy @MindOverBooty.

  1. My most courageous achievement was losing 40 pounds several years ago. Now I have to claim that again and make it an even greater achievement after having this baby!

  2. Brigette D.

Congratulations, Miss. M! So proud of you!

My most courageous moments: living in France for a few months, my first zumba class, and right now: attempting to network and find a new job! :)

    • Marisa

Thanks Brigette! You are braver than I when it comes to Zumba – I still haven’t found the courage. :)

  3. Bob P

    Happy Anniversary ! ! !
Keep up the good work !

  4. Grant Park

Congratulations Babe! I’m so Proud of all you’ve accomplished with MOB. It’s truly amazing and a reflection of the person that you are. I love you!

  5. This is such a big day! Congrats, friend :)

My most courageous moment was quitting the job that was killing my soul, even though I didn’t know what was going to come next. My next courageous was posting my artwork online for all the world to see!

    Sending bear hugs your way!

    • Marisa

Thanks Adriana! Your artwork is so fabulous – I’m glad you’re sharing it with the world.

  6. Elise

Congrats! One of my most courageous moments was swimming across a lake this summer. I had trained in a pool, but when I got in the lake and put my face in the water I panicked. But I didn’t want to give up so I regrouped and swim the whole thing with my face out of the water alternating between swimming on my side and my back. I slowed down, but I finished just the same.

    • Marisa

Elise, that is awesome! I’m still mildly fearful of swimming in the lake.

It’s not just one moment, but my most courageous change was learning to embrace the more fun side of fitness without being embarrassed. I can’t count the number of times my roommates and neighbors have seen me doing crazy moves along with a Billy Blanks taebo DVD – but it keeps me going and I love it! And yes, I do it outside in the yard sometimes to enjoy the fresh air :-) I’ve lost 50 pounds and I love my life.

    • Marisa

I’ve loved watching your transformation! You seem so content. Keep kicking booty!

      • Casey Roe

Thanks! You seem so happy too and I just love the blog. I need to try that pumpkin shake ASAP :-) Keep up the great work and congrats on your 1 year!

  8. Yay! Congrats on the one year blogoversary!
My most courageous moment was signing up for and completing my first triathlon! Hopefully in 2012 I will be signing up for and completing a Half-Ironman!

    • Marisa

That is amazing! I’ve been wanting to do a trathlon, maybe 2012 will be the year.

  9. Kelly (sis of GP)

Love the blog, the recipes, and watching you “grow” as a blogger! So very exciting! My most courageous act? Leaving a job I loved and was good at for a new, unknown challenge. Second runner up might be climbing Half Dome…

    • Marisa

Thanks for reading, Kelly! The ladder photo from Half Dome looks crazy – I don’t know if I would be brave enough.

I love how this blog brings people together! My most courageous achievement has been moving 3,000 miles away from friends and family to start a new life of independence. Every little thing is a new accomplishment, like meeting someone new for coffee, NOT using my GPS, or taking the bus to my new job! I’m still in transition but really happy with where this journey is taking me.

    • Marisa

I’m so proud of how well you are doing out there! Moving takes a lot of courage.

  11. Happy Blogiversary!! :)

My most courageous achievement…. that’s tough. One for sure is running my first half marathon. It took time and training and was really hard at times, but I am so glad I did it!

  12. stacy

My most courageous achievement was deciding to do the ramblin rose triathlon for women with little training. I was strong in the running. Had 0 time in the pool and next to none on the bike. I finished in 64 minutes and did not walk that bike at all nor did I walk during the 2 mile run. Not bad for a 44 yr old. I am going to train w my 10 yr old daughter and we are going to do it together in 2012.

    • Marisa

That sounds like a cool way to mother-daughter bond. Good luck to you both!

  13. Shauna

My most courageous achievements are finding BALANCE between teaching Junior High kids, finishing my Masters Degree to become a Principal in December, giving myself to family and friends while remaining true to myself! I have been a vegetarian for 4 years, I practice yoga daily, and find happiness in exercising outside! Thanks for your unconditional LOVE and SUPPORT Miss Marisa! <3 you!

    • Marisa

You’re a rock star and one of my role models when it comes to embracing life!

  14. jaime

hi marisa!! Congrats on the one year anniversary :) my biggest accomplishment was moving to chicago after graduation from college. I had zero job, no family within 200 miles, and no money (my best friend and i shared a one bedroom apartment) but KNEW this is where i wanted to live. It took 6 long months (which felt like years at the time) but, I’m so happy I did it…I love this city and I’ve never been happier!!

    • Marisa

I’ve moved a few times – definitely requires lots of bravery and drive. Congrats to you!

  15. Congratulations on your Blogiversary! Hard to believe it has only been one year!

I honestly think starting my blog was one of the most courageous things I have done too. I am pretty shy so it took a lot of encouragement from my boyfriend to get me started, and it was a while before I told my family and friends about it!

    • Marisa

I know – so crazy that it’s only been 1 year?! Starting a blog takes courage, and continuing to blog takes more!

  16. Congrats on your second blogiversary! I think my most courageous achievement has been reaching a point where I actually can say, “I think I look pretty darn good.” Simple but true :)

  17. Shanai

I know I’m a bit late on this one, but just wanted to send a quick note to say you never cease to amaze and inspire me. :) Congrats on the amazing blog, my dear. :)

    All my love!
